Intellectual property touches nearly every stage of a business’s development. It represents a business’s face to the world, its indispensable product that people need, and its most valuable secrets to be protected. Strong IP lawyers know how to create and manage IP portfolios from small start-ups to worldwide corporations.
John’s clients range from small businesses to Fortune 500 corporations. He has decades of experience handling rights secured by patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, and trade secrets among others.

John helps businesses manage intellectual property portfolios and devise business development strategies including intellectual property evaluations, due diligence and assessments for new ventures and financing arrangements. Later in the cycle, he has experience negotiating IP-related agreements such as letters of intent, informational services (software licenses, hardware purchases, and telecommunications), consulting, non-disclosure, employment contracts and the sale of intellectual property related to venture capital arrangements, mergers and acquisitions.

The internet brings a unique set of needs for IP audits/transfers, IP clearance and opinion letters, domain name matters and e-commerce.

When it comes to dispute resolution, John has extensive trial experience with trademark infringement, complex licensing agreements, trade secret cases, and domain name disputes, preliminary injunctions and Temporary Restraining Order (“TRO”) hearings.  He also has experience litigating opposition and cancellation practice before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
