We want to wish you a Happy New Year and share some news about growth and changes at our firm.

Our core area of practice focusing on domestic and international trademark, copyright and internet issues continues to be globally recognized.  We remain the only U.S. practice to receive national recognition by the World Trademark Review (2019) for trademark transactions, trademark litigation and domain name matters.

We are delighted to announce that Francyn Brown and Kahlia Halpern have accepted offers to join the firm as new associates.  Both worked with us as law clerks during law school and are well versed in our practice areas.

We’ve added patent litigation and prosecution capabilities with the addition of veteran lawyer Todd S. Parkhurst to the team.  Todd started and managed intellectual property practices at several leading Chicago firms, including Holland & Knight, Schiff Hardin and Jenner & Block.

Jordan Leahey leads our growing technology transaction practice and has gained extensive experience advising on all types of software licensing, development, and distribution agreements.  Jordan was recently selected by a Fortune 50 company to negotiate software license agreements between a provider of healthcare IT applications/solutions and a healthcare network to integrate their offerings and balance the mitigation of legal risks with client goals. Jordan also focuses on legal issues related to global marketing and advertising programs, including sponsorship and promotional partnership agreements, and contest & sweepstakes terms and conditions.  Jordan devotes substantial time assisting clients in highly regulated industries (alcohol beverage, financial services, and healthcare) with these matters requiring careful review of the advertising and other promotional materials for legal and regulatory issues.

You may know us primarily for our litigation experience, particularly our ability to settle difficult IP disputes and willingness to proceed to trial if necessary.  In 2019, we obtained over $1,000,000 in awards and settlements for our clients in trademark disputes in federal court proceedings and arbitration.   Mark Partridge, with over 30 years of litigation and trial experience, is backed by a strong litigation team including Charlie Giger, a former law clerk with the Seventh Circuit, Rebecca Burch, with prior litigation experience at Kirkland & Ellis, and the other members of the firm.
We’re proud of our attorneys who move on to new responsibilities.  Our colleague Daniel Rogna has been tapped by The Wonderful Company in Los Angeles to work as an in-house trademark counsel.  We all miss him but wish him well in his new role.  Please raise a glass of POM Wonderful® pomegranate juice to toast him for this marvelous opportunity.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and new year with friends and family.  You are the key to our continued success and we are grateful to you all for entrusting us with your IP issues.  If we can do anything to make your work load lighter please let us know.  We look forward to helping you achieve your goals in 2020, and if you know someone else who might benefit from our services, please don’t keep us a secret.
We’re glad to help!
Best wishes,
Mark Partridge
