Paul R. Garcia is a founding partner of Partridge & Garcia P.C., a national firm with a global practice handling trials, appeals, and transactions in all areas of intellectual property, including trademark, trade secret, and patent. Paul has successfully briefed and argued numerous appeals, including in “bet-the-company” cases. He has successfully litigated § 337 actions in the International Trade Commission and has served as an Arbitrator in trademark disputes.

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney

Paul honed his trial experience as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois. As an AUSA, He investigated and prosecuted a wide range of federal crimes, including “white collar” fraud, computer hacking, theft of trade secret, political corruption, and various other offenses.  And, tried many cases to verdict in jury and bench trials and briefed and argued many cases in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Paul is regularly recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of intellectual property law, is listed in the Guide to the World’s Leading Trade Mark Law Practitioners, and has been selected by his peers as a “Leading Lawyer” in the areas of Advertising and Intellectual Property Law. He is a “Master of the Court” in the Richard Linn Inn of Courts and has been elected as a member of the prestigious American Law Institute.

Professional Association Involvement

Paul is an active member of the legal community with memberships in the International Trademark Association (INTA), Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, Hispanic National Bar Association, Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund (MALDEF), and is an elected member of the prestigious American Law Institute (ALI). He was a Founding Member of the Richard Linn Inn of Courts, one of the twenty-two American Inns of Court in the United States and in Japan that focuses on intellectual property. And, has served on the Editorial Board for The Trademark Reporter.

Pro Bono Work

Paul is dedicated to pro bono service and regularly represents indigent federal criminal defendants in their direct appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He also successfully defended, pro bono, a former college basketball player accused by the university’s former assistant basketball coach of making defamatory statements concerning alleged payments by that coach to college recruits.

Community Involvement

Beyond professional service, Paul is active in his community. He serves as the Secretary & Treasurer for St. Thomas’ Day School Foundation, Inc. and served as the Co-Chair of St. Thomas' Day School Capital Campaign. For many years, he has been a mentor for LINK Unlimited, an organization that provides educational college preparatory opportunities for economically disadvantaged African American high school youth.
