Mark J. Shkolnik

Of Counsel

Mark Shkolnik is an Of Counsel member of Partridge Partners, a Chicago-based intellectual property firm with a global practice helping businesses protect brands, content and ideas. For nearly 25 years, clients have counted on Mr. Shkolnik to provide practical solutions to complex business problems. As one long-time client wrote, “I have dealt with plenty of the top twenty law firms and experienced many frustrations, primarily due to their inability to accommodate business needs with legal solutions. Your ability to quickly understand our business and priorities eliminated this frustration and has led to many quick and profitable results.”

Mr. Shkolnik holds a Masters Degree in Intellectual Property Law and has, throughout his career, assisted intellectual-property-rich companies to register, license and enforce their most valuable brands, technologies and creative works. In making business decisions, clients count on Mr. Shkolnik to provide a clear view of their legal risks so they can decide with confidence which risks are worth taking in the context of what stands to be gained. This practical approach helped many clients win favorable settlements in their intellectual property disputes before a lawsuit was even filed, thereby avoiding costly litigation. Additionally, Mr. Shkolnik has served as outside General Counsel to a number of businesses. His broad-based experience helps him identify major issues other lawyers commonly overlook or underestimate as insignificant.

Beginning his legal career at Sam Zell’s Equity Group Investments in Chicago, Mr. Shkolnik focused on real estate and environmental law. Next, at DLA Piper, he handled a wide variety of matters, with a focus on intellectual property and business transactions. Several DLA clients who retained Mr. Shkolnik to handle a particular type of matter soon also retained him as outside General Counsel, appreciating his ability to not miss the forest for the trees. While at DLA Piper, Mark’s increasing focus on intellectual property matters lead him to return to school in the evenings to earn a Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property law. Thereafter, Mr. Shkolnik formed his own law practice to focus primarily on serving clients as outside General Counsel and intellectual property counsel.
